Hekate asked:

After over a year of trying to conceive, my husband and I are finally going to have a baby. I’m about 8 weeks along and probably 75% of the time, I’m nauseous. I’m having a really hard time taking my prenatal vitamins. Aren’t children’s vitamins just as good as prenatal vitamins?

Any advice is more than welcome.

Kathlyn

I’m not sure what kind they were, but my friend took children’s chewable vitamins when she was pregnant with her first baby because she couldn’t keep the prenatals down. Her doctor told her to.

NO. break up your prenatal vitamins or do whatever to take them but don’t substitute them for flintstone vitamins. ask your doc

Yes, but ask your doctor they may have you take 2 kids vitamins, or 1 kids + a Folic Acid pill (which is small) or something like that. My sister is in your situation and they told her to take 2 Flintstone vitamins.

When my best friend foung out she was pregnant she was worried about taking prenatal vitamins because she has a hard time swallowing pills. She had been taking the One a Day gummie vitamins. So her Dr just told her to take a double dose of any childrens chewable vitamin! I was skeptical at first but double doses contain about the same amounts of vitamins, Folic Acid, and nutrients as prenatals! I have also heard that you may try taking you prenatals at night to avoid them making you as nauseaus. Congrats and have a happy and healthy pregnancy!

No they are not. You need to see your nurse practitioner. You need extra Folic Acid and calcium so the baby does not develop spina bifida.
You really need to take the prenatal ones. You need to rest at week 10-11 too. Go see your nurse practitioner or doctor and see if she or he has any ideas for you.

    Good luck

Any vitamin is probably better than no vitamin at all, but no, prenatal vitamins are much stronger. They contain Folic Acid which is really needed for your baby.

When I woke up in the morning I had a large glass of water on the bedside table. I would drink the entire thing- then procede directly to the restroom. When I got rid of the water, my body felt better and I could go on about my day.

If you can’t take the vitamins in the morning, have you tried taking them at night? Also your OBGYN can prescribe phenegrin to help with the nausea.

    Good Luck!!

Some of my friends’ doctors did tell them to take Flinstones but to supplement Folic Acid on top of it separately.

Yes my doctor put me on flintstone vitamins, 2 a day, because I couldn’t keep prenantals down. They have gummy sour ones, regular gummys, or the chewables. I personally like the gummy sours.

    Congrats :)
